Closed petition Make bike storage pods a requirement for all new building developments

We want the provision of secure weatherproof individual bike storage pods, with charging points, to be made a planning condition for all new building developments - residential, commercial or public.

Bike theft is endemic and no lock can withstand thieves who routinely go armed with bolt cutters and portable angle grinders. It is also difficult to secure the individual components on bikes that are also targeted for theft. It is difficult to remove and carry wheels, saddles, batteries etc in addition to lights and panniers or baskets. Police statistics for resolving bike theft are extremely low. Particular problems in flats mean bikes may be too heavy to carry upstairs to store or charge.
