Closed petition Abolish grants paid to Ministers leaving office

Closed on

Government ministers can claim a taxpayer-funded grant equal to 1/4 of their annual ministerial salary when they leave ministerial office, on top of their MP's salary of £82,000. Ministers should not be rewarded irrespective of how long or capably they have served

We want the Ministerial and other Pensions and Salaries Act 1991 amended to abolish these grants, We believe abolishing these grants is essential for regaining public trust

Public finances are under immense stress but as it stands after the General Election the taxpayer will be expected to pay this to anyone who leaves ministerial office, even if they remain MPs.

This petition asks that HM Government ask Parliament to repeal Section 4 of the 'Ministerial & other Pensions & Salaries Act 1991' which provides the legal basis for these grants.
