Rejected petition Save BBC Local Radio and it's current shows

The BBC are planning on making major cuts to it's local radio stations and we think that this is an absolute travesty. Local radio provides an essential service to it's listeners, is often the bedrock of it's community and the Bbc is unqiue in providing thisbservice. Please reconsider these cuts.

More details

Local radio is consumed in a way that other media isn't and is often a lifeline for the elderly, infirm and lonely. Radio presenters are often to referred to as being like family.
Whilst it is true that younger people consume more of their media online, they are also less likely to be paying the license fee and we feel that the BBC should continue to provide this unique service in it's current form.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about local BBC radio services are a matter for the BBC, not the UK Government or Parliament.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
