Rejected petition Save BBC local radio programming from round the country from latest BBC cuts.

BBC is a publicly funded service that's supposed to be for the people & big part of delivering that promise within charter is local TV & radio output that's unique to areas it's broadcast in. The removal of this output is a disservice to local communities up & down the country that must be stopped.

More details

Every MP, regardless of party politics from every area around the country should be raising questions over this in parliament. The positive effect of local radio can not be measured in £, as I bet every MP can attest to the exposure it has given to constituents/groups/charity's & given their voice reach on important topics in local communities UK wide. Reduction of unique local programming must surely raise questions on fulfilment of charter & if public funds are being used in a effective manner

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about local BBC radio services are a matter for the BBC, not the UK Government or Parliament.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
