Closed petition Review the Gender Recognition Act and its interaction with the Equality Act
Closed on
The GRA enables transgender people to achieve legal recognition in their acquired gender and change their recorded sex. We believe this has had myriad unintended consequences, and the legislation needs to be reviewed to see if it is still fit for purpose, or should be reformed.
The GRA has resulted in violent males being placed in women's prisons, and biological men being recorded as women in police crime statistics.
I would like the Government to commission an immediate review of the GRA, including the terminology used within the legislation, and its interaction with the Equality Act, and to consider whether it is still appropriate and fit for purpose.
The GRA was created to enable transgender people to achieve legal recognition in their acquired gender and change their recorded sex, but we believe this legislation has had too many unintended consequences.
Whether a review of the GRA leads to reform or not, we must create wider societal changes so that every individual in society can thrive.
