We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Revoke the unjust Community Protection Notice (CPN) power

The low threshold for CPN issue is unreasonable and unjust. Recipients are not told of the evidence against them or asked for their side of the case.

The process is stacked against the defendant who is presumed guilty at the outset. Authorities do not require sound evidence before issuing a CPN.

More details

Accusers can pursue a malicious course of conduct in safety from redress.

The appeal window is too narrow and does not allow for illness or hospitalisation of the recipient. There is no legal aid and appellants place themselves at risk of costs claims which are prohibitive.

To date no government research has been commissioned into the functioning, justice or effectiveness of these powers.

This is a coercive power that is being used to victimise members of the public and should be revoked.
