People who changed jobs should not be penalised by losing maternity pay rights, You only receive statutory maternity pay if you have been working at your current job for 26 Weeks at your 15th week of Pregnancy. If you've previously been working, you should be entitled to maternity pay from day 1.

It is unfair to expect someone who has worked their whole life to become a single income household because they've changed jobs and had an unexpected pregnancy and not been able to plan when to have a baby. Especially within the current cost of living crisis.
