Closed petition Create new Rights to Repair for consumer electronics
Closed on
We want the Government to enhance consumer rights regarding repair of consumer electronics, by:
- banning measures to prevent repairs by end users
- create a statutory minimum 5 year warranty (like in Norway)
- require batteries to be easily replaceable
Many manufacturers use measures to prevent repairs by end users, make it difficult to replace batteries, use parts that fail quickly, and do not provide long-term warranties.
This is unacceptable, and the Government must implement new rights for consumers. As well as protecting consumers, this should help reduce electronic and financial waste.
