We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Make coroners subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)

Amend the FOIA to specifically include Coroners in Schedule 1 as a public authority that is subject to the FOIA, and must respond to freedom of information requests.

More details

Coroners are public officers and should be accountable. It is in the public interest that Coroners be obliged to respond to freedom of information requests, so that they are transparent, and can be scrutinised and held culpable.

Although Coroner Services are appointed and funded in part by a public authority, they are separate legal entities from any council, and are not subject to FOIA.
