Closed petition Allow students who self-funded 1st degree to access student loan for 2nd degree

To change the eligibility for student loans so that home students who have self-funded for their 1st Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree can still be eligible to access a student loan for their 2nd degree at the same level as the 1st.

Student loans are funded by the Government, and so the taxpayer, so that students can pursue an education that will hopefully land them a job and in turn become taxpayers who pay off their loans to replenish the system.

We believe that the existing rules, where an applicant who has self-funded their first degree is not eligible for a student loan, is draconian since the applicant has not previously accessed a student loan.
