Rejected petition Tougher UK regulation of the international trading in second-hand clothing

We require that both charity organisations and the UK government take action by providing tougher regulations for second-hand textiles which are leaving the UK, and more specifically work alongside Accra, Ghana to “clean up” the damage taking place from textile waste.

More details

The UK is the second biggest exporter of used textiles. Without regulations for donations, charity shops end up with items that are hard to sell, and 35% of the world’s second-hand clothing trade go straight to the African continent. 17 million items from the West circulate weekly in the Kantamanto market in Ghana, with 50% being discarded.
