Closed petition Require background checks and references for shared student accommodation

Create a law that requires landlords who rent single rooms in shared student accommodations to do criminal record checks and seek character references from previous landlords and employers.

There are too many cases where individuals with backgrounds that make them unsuitable to live in shared student accommodation have been able to rent rooms in such accommodation. This can lead to the harassment and assault of other residents.

There needs to be more preventative measures in place to prevent this happening to more young people.
