This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Sentencing guidelines are produced by the Sentencing Council, which is independent of the UK Government and Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to amend the legislation governing the offence of sexual communication with a child, so that the minimum sentence that can be given for this offence is a two year custodial sentence.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
