We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Closed petition Ban the use of stiles for public rights of way

Make it illegal to erect stiles on public rights of way and enforce a reasonable timeframe for replacement of all existing stiles with a more suitable and disability friendly gate solution.

More details

Stiles are not disability friendly, they are hard to climb over for people with disabilities as well as hard to climb over for the elderly and less agile people. They can cause injury, stress and upset. Alternative routes are not always available, therefore stiles are discriminatory, stopping users from accessing public areas, particularly on walks surrounding busy towns where people like to get fresh air and get active, fit and healthy. They can also be hard for dog walkers to negotiate.
