Closed petition Provide additional funding to Highway Agencies for clearance of roadside litter.

Litter along many major roads has increased over the years. I feel the country is becoming swamped in a sea of mess. This problem is even more visible than plastics in the oceans and needs to be addressed. The Government should increase funding to Highway Agencies for clearance of roadside litter.

More details

There's not a major road in the country that's free of discarded items, including plastics, paper, discarded tyres and even furniture. I feel that central government must, take a lead, so that a campaign to remove litter from major roads and restore national pride in our countryside and cities can be started.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'. This means that Westminster debates don’t end in a vote on a particular action or decision.
