Rejected petition NFA ‘No Further Action’ Should Not Be The End

We are starting a campaign to discourage 'NFA' being used, as a definitive outcome, by Police and Local Authorities.

We are asking that when a young person makes a disclosure relating to a past ‘NFA’ investigation, that this be re-opened and re analysed with any new evidence.

More details

It is estimated that only 1 in 8 victims of sexual abuse come to the attention of statutory authorities (Children’s Commissioner 2015).

The young people that disclose sexual abuse later on in their lives (whether this be when they are older, when they feel comfortable to do so or when they have worked through their trauma and are ready) are sometimes met with ‘NFA’ decisions/conclusions by Police and their Local Authority.

Please help us prevent children going unheard or met with 'NFA's'.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about investigating alleged crimes, including when to close and reopen investigations, are a matter for the police, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If someone is unhappy that a police force has closed or failed to reopen an investigation they can complain about this: https://www.policeconduct.gov.uk/complaints-reviews-and-appeals/make-complaint

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
