Closed petition Stop Charging VAT on Public Access Defibrillators - they save lives!

Less than 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. We believe there aren’t enough public access defibrillators available 24/7. Having one available in an emergency can be life saving, especially in areas where ambulance response times are longer. Please stop charging VAT

More details

It is our belief that defibrillators should be commonplace and readily available. About 95% of people who suffer a Cardiac Arrest will die before reaching the hospital and 30,000 people this year will have a Cardiac Arrest. Communities and charities throughout the country work extremely hard to raise funds to buy defibrillators. Why does the government make it harder by charging VAT. Help us to get more life saving defibrillators available to the general public. Stop charging VAT.

MPs debate public access to defibrillators

On Tuesday 4 July, Abena Oppong-Asare MP led a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament on public access to defibrillators.

During the debate MPs discussed access to and awareness of publicly available defibrillators. They also discussed the VAT arrangements for defibrillators.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
