Important:

Rejected petition Cease the use of 'Right Honourable' when referring to MPs.

I want the title of 'Right Honourable' and any variations to be revoked from Members of Parliament. It should not be used in official documentation, as the suggestion that an MP is automatically 'right' and 'honourable' is unsubstantiated.

More details

Members of Parliament are not required to be 'right' or 'honourable'. With increasing frequency, they are shown to be neither.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Appointments to the Privy Council, which determines whether a person is referred to as "Right Honourable", are made by the Sovereign and are for life, so this is not something the Government or House of Commons are responsible for. You can find out more about the Privy Council here: https://privycouncil.independent.gov.uk/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
