Rejected petition Make dementia a medical condition for NHS Continuing Healthcare
Dementia patients do not qualify for funding under the NHS Continuing Healthcare at the moment. I want the UK Government to change the rules so that it is included and that patients are allowed to keep a maximum of £100000 of their accumulated wealth

At present all dementia patients have to fund themselves in dementia care nursing homes up to £1200 per week until their estate has reached a minimum level of £23.250. Pensioners have paid a huge amount of money into Government funds during their working lives and deserve looking after in later life.

Decisions about when to provide NHS continuing healthcare are a matter for the NHS, not the UK Government or Parliament. In any case, NHS continuing healthcare is provided in respect of identified needs, and not an individual’s specific condition or disease.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to increase funding for the care of people with dementia, or to change rules regarding allowable savings to be eligible for support with the cost of care.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
