Rejected petition Legalise the keeping of otters in the United Kingdom.

It is currently prohibited to keep an Otter in the United Kingdom. However, this is wrong. Otters are cute and cuddly and when treated well make good pets.

It does not mean that anyone can own an otter, they should of course be licensed, but a prohibition on keeping otters is wrong.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Your petition calls for the Government to allow people to get licences to keep otters, but it is already possible to apply for a licence to possess European Protected Species, including otters.

You can find out more about applying for a licence to possess a European Protected Species here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/european-protected-species-apply-for-a-licence-to-possess-them

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to introduce a new licence for keeping otters as domestic pets, if that's what you want to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
