Rejected petition Remove anonymity for commenters on online media outlets
People use the anonymity allowed by creating random usernames to troll individuals on media outlets. Articles are put together in such a way to incite hate online through the comment section. People should be held accountable for their words.
More details
I have personally been trolled on media outlets, by nameless individuals behind a keyboard. It affects my life a huge amount and I know the same for so many others. We know so many awful endings for trolling and commenting on how someone looks, there needs to be more in place to stop those commenting horrific statements with no repercussions. I have seen and felt it first hand and a difference needs the be made for the future generation.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
Decisions about the information people need to provide to post comments are a matter for individual media companies, not the UK Government or Parliament.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to require media companies to verify the identity of people posting on their sites, and publish the full names of commenters, if that's what you want to happen.
If you want to start a new petition you'll need to provide your full name.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
