Closed petition Require AEDs in publicly accessible businesses and make tax deductible

Closed on

Require businesses, who give access to their premises to members of the public, to have automated external defibrillator (AEDs), and allow them to include the full pre-vat cost of an AED and associated accessories (such as replacement pads) against their annual tax return.

Only around 5% of “out-of-hospital” heart attacks survive. This is due in part to unsuccessful CPR treatment. It is also due to the time it takes for professional help to arrive; anything longer than 5 minutes, you’re against the clock to recover oxygen to the brain. Businesses currently do not legally need to provide AED equipment and the cost of suitable equipment puts some businesses off “doing the right thing”. Making it compulsory with a means to recompense should help save lives.
