In the mid-19th century, an 11-year old regent named Duleep Singh was pressured by British colonial officials to cede ownership of one of the world’s largest cut diamonds to Queen Victoria. It is now sitting in the crown of Queen Elizabeth, which has not been worn for at least twenty years.

Holding onto the spoils of colonialism prevents meaningful dialogue about the impact of said colonialism from taking place, and only serves to reinforce trauma.
