Rejected petition Delay the dump of magnesium oxide at St Ives to allow environmental assessment

After a ‘swimming pool’ test the plan is to dump massive amounts of magnesium hydroxide into st Ives bay this summer. Local concerns about environmental impact have been ignored. It needs proper consultation about impacts on sea life and swimmers. And an environmental impact assessment

More details

Magnesium Hydroxide is used commercially to raise pH of water during treatment. It is also used in deodorants and in anti-acid tablets for indigestion or constipation. Although raising pH may be a positive impact on capture of carbon dioxide the risk to the fragile marine environment is unclear. Further tests to gauge long term impact on the ecosystem needed before scaling up the test
