The title "sports therapist" is not protected by law, and anyone can call themselves this without having completed a degree in sports therapy. This could have serious consequences because people could be injured, existing injuries could be aggravated, and serious conditions may not be identified (as the person is not formally trained). There is an example of a physiotherapist struck off by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) who continued in practice using the title "sports therapist".
