We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee

Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Rejected petition Sex offenders to be subject to approval by communities before being housed

Government must put in place community awareness and approval BEFORE a registered sex offender is housed within the area.

More details

Child sex abuse and grooming won't be tolerated in N.Ireland. The laws must change to allow parents/guardians to be aware that a sex offender is applying to move into their communities, allowing them the options to accept or decline sex offender/s to be housed there. This is to further safe guard children.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about housing for offenders in Northern Ireland are a matter for the Northern Ireland institutions and relevant local authorities, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you want to raise this issue you could contact your MLA. You can find contact details for your MLAs here: http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/your-mlas/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
