Closed petition Amend the British Museum Act to allow the acceptance of repatriation requests.
Closed on
Some artefacts exhibited or kept in the British Museum for hundreds of year, should now be returned to their countries of origin.
Amend this piece of legislation to at least give the British Museum trustees the freedom to accept repatriation requests and enter into negotiation for their return.
The removal of these artefacts from their countries of origin have been contentious ever since they were removed, such as the the 'Parthenon Marbles', The 'Benin Bronzes' and the 'Rosetta stone'. These Artefacts represent part of the history and cultural identity of millions of people. After exhibiting them in the British Museum for hundreds of years, it is time to discuss the return of these artefacts to their rightful owners.
