Whilst recognising the importance of transparency and accountability, the Police must carry out their duties knowing the laws they uphold are there to protect them with same due process as members of the public and furthermore upholds their right to anonymity. When on patrol, deployed on proactive crime and counter terrorism operations Police make split second decisions to disarm the armed and dangerous to protect communities. Officers must do so with a framework that provides them with reasonable legal protection when their actions are justifiable and in line with their training and duty to serve and protect. We call on lawmakers to ensure this protection in the face of lawful operational decisions.
