Rejected petition Change the legal age going to adult services within the healthcare system to 19.

I believe that at sixteen you are still classed as a child therefore shouldn’t be forced to go into adult services. I also believe that a young person should be allowed to have time before they fully leave the services they are at. So they can fully transition into the services they’ll be going too.

More details

This effects young people who have mental health issues or physical issues who have been in inpatient care. Many young people find it difficult with changes which could cause them to not seek out for help. Speaking from experience I find it difficult mostly because I didn’t have enough time to grow mentally. It’s a jurassic change from having help from others to all of a sudden having to do it all on your own without being taught how. Don’t take away all our innocence that has already been taken.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We understand that you are concerned about how healthcare is provided to young people, but we can only accept petitions about things the UK Government or House of Commons is directly responsible for.

Decisions about how to provide health services is something the NHS, not the Government or House of Commons are responsible for. The Government funds the NHS, but decisions about how particular services are provided to different age groups is an operational decision for the NHS.

If you are unhappy about the care you have received from the NHS, including as a result of being moved to adult health services, you could complain about this. You can find out how to complain about the NHS here: https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/about-the-nhs/how-to-complain-to-the-nhs/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
