Driver and load safety and security is critical and can have significant costs for hauliers due to load theft, diesel theft and vehicle damage. There is an immediate need for an increase in parking provision at motorway services and to make parking areas for HGVs safer and more secure.

The Government has said it would take action to help ensure lorry drivers have facilities where they can safely park, sleep and rest, but we believe not enough has been done. The Government should require increased and more secure provision of HGV parking at motorway services. As for the hauliers the cost can be astronomical due to load thefts diesel thefts and vehicle damage. This issue needs addressing.
