We’re waiting for a new Petitions Committee
Petitions had to stop because of the recent general election. Once a new Petitions Committee is set up by the House of Commons, petitions will start again.

Rejected petition Stop the unauthorised absence at schools because of mental health.
Make education committees accept that mental health is as important as physical health and stop the unauthorised absence marks
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand you're concerned about how schools treat absences on the grounds of mental ill health. However, it is already the case that schools and local authorities are required to treat all medical absences as authorised (including those relating to mental health) unless they have a legitimate reason for doubting the truthfulness of the student's claim. We're therefore not sure what it is you want the Government to do differently.
You could contact a local councillor who represents you if you have a specific concern about how a particular school or your local authority treats such absences. You can find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them, by entering your post code here: https://www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
