Petition Make decisions on disability related benefits responsibility of GPs

We want the Government to change the assessment process for disability benefits. We want claimants' doctors to conduct assessments and certify entitlement to relevant benefits for the appropriate length of time.

We feel that disabled people are being targeted unfairly by the Government trying to cut costs rather than because of fraud. Overpayments due to fraud for Personal Independence Payments were just 0.2% in the financial year ending 2023. We feel people are being made to feel bad for claiming disability benefits. We think that many disabled people are finding their mental health has become significantly worse as a direct result of their interaction with the DWP.
