Petition right to keep and bear arms/open carry a weapon

I feel that we should as a free country be allowed to keep and bear arms regardless of what model or make they are such as glock ar-15 etc
and to apply for a permit to open carry such defensive weapons.
I feel if properly regulated this could improve society as crime rates would go down knowing someone has a firearm would be a deterrent and the police force can carry them as well.
guns have many uses besides shooting people only the irresponsible do this and they don't get their guns leally anyway so why should law abiding citizens suffer and be completely defenceless against them?
