We petition the government to request the Lord Chancellor approves "City Status" to the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

The Borough of Wigan deserves "City Status" to become the City of Wigan.

The Borough of Wigan's "Believe" campaign supporting sporting achievements through sport has seen tremendous achievements in rugby, football and athletics.

The recent visit by the Prime Minister to open one of Europe's finest Youth Zones in Wigan shows the Borough's commitment to young people through private and government investment.

The Borough of Wigan's population size, location, transport links and its position in the region makes the Borough ideally placed.

Wigan Council achieved a top six position in the local government awards for the "Best Achieving Council" at The MJ Local Government Awards.

Awarding "City Status" to the Borough of Wigan will cement the Borough's "Believe" campaign and will bring a sense of civic pride to its people.
