Closed petition: Provide funding to the NHS to offer full STI screening at beginning of pregnancy
Closed on
This petition is calling for the Government to provide funding to the NHS so that full STI screening can be offered as part of routine testing at the beginning of a pregnancy.
I lost my daughter in September 2023 and found out 4 days later that I had tested positive for two STIs. I had developed pelvic inflammatory disease and went into premature labour.
Currently, pregnant women are offered screening for three STIs via a blood test at around 10 weeks – HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis.
Screening for other STIs is not routinely offered.
I had no idea I was at risk. I believe that if I had been screened at the beginning of my pregnancy and the STIs had been picked up, they could have been easily treated and my daughter would still be with me today.
It is my belief that this screening would save babies all over the country.
