Petition Fund Breast Cancer Screening from Age 40 & Alternative Screening Options

We urge the Government to fund breast cancer screening at 40+, as thousands under 50 are diagnosed yearly. Early screening can save lives and lessen the need for aggressive treatments. Invest in alternative screening, including options for dense breast tissue, to help ensure no one is overlooked.

More details

Screening from 40 could save lives through earlier detection. The U.S. and Australia have earlier screening. Additionally, we call on the Government to promote, encourage, and support the million women who missed their screening invitations in 2021/22, remind newly eligible patients turning 50, re-engage those who have ignored past invites, and promote regular self-checks for early detection in mainstream media.

    Explainer

Backbench Business debates give MPs an opportunity to debate a topic of their choice, and receive a response from the Government.

    They are a way to:

    • raise awareness of an issue
    • seek to influence government policy
    • put the views of backbench MPs, political parties, and the Government on record.

They do not generally involve a vote on a particular action or decision.

This debate will take place in Westminster Hall
