Government responded
This response was given on 8 August 2025
The UK suspended trade talks, reviewed bilateral ties, imposed sanctions, and continues to push for a ceasefire, aid access, and a peaceful resolution to the Gaza conflict.

Since day one, this Government has been clear that we need to see an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages cruelly detained by Hamas, better protection of civilians, significantly more aid consistently entering Gaza, and a path to long-term peace and stability. Civilian casualties from Israeli strikes are appalling. We do not believe there is a military solution to this conflict.
Sanctions can be used to achieve a range of foreign and security policy objectives. We use sanctions when they complement other tools as part of a wider strategy. It would not be appropriate to speculate about future sanctions designations as to do so could reduce their impact.
In response to Israel’s actions in Gaza, on 20 May we announced the suspension of negotiations on a new free trade agreement with Israel, a review of cooperation with Israel under the 2030 bilateral roadmap, and the imposition of sanctions on three individuals and four entities involved in the settler movement. The Netanyahu government made this necessary. We will not hesitate to take further actions.
The UK government is clear that we remain committed to our existing trading relationship with Israel and the UK-Israel Trade and Partnership Agreement (TPA) already in force. There are long-standing relationships of trade and economics with Israel, and UK exports to Israel support thousands of jobs in the UK.
