Petition Fund access to GLP-1 medications through the NHS for women with PCOS

Studies highlight the effectiveness of GLP-1 medications for women with PCOS. We think funding access to GLP-1 treatments, without restrictive BMI criteria or tier system barriers, would improve care and outcomes for these patients.

More details

Studies reveal that women with PCOS have higher absenteeism, increased unemployment, and a greater risk of disability retirement by age 52.

Without effective preventive treatments like GLP-1, we think there is a greater burden on the NHS due to downstream complications of untreated PCOS later on. This can include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infertility, mental health issues, and cancer.

We think early intervention is essential to reduce these long-term healthcare costs on the NHS.

    Explainer

Backbench Business debates give MPs an opportunity to debate a topic of their choice, and receive a response from the Government.

    They are a way to:

    • raise awareness of an issue
    • seek to influence government policy
    • put the views of backbench MPs, political parties, and the Government on record.

They do not generally involve a vote on a particular action or decision.

This debate will take place in Westminster Hall
