Rejected petition Preserve British protection of the Chagos islands marine reserve

To ensure the marine park is protected from external economic exploitation to accepted standards.
Exclusion of the industrial fisheries of the Far East with their vast nets, & miles of long lines, is critical.
To maintain this 'marine ecological masterpiece' should -must- be above politics.

As a Geologist & Oceanographer, I recognise the unique tectonic formations of these islands. Today its physical characteristics create a stabilizing base for the entire Indian Ocean biodiversity, and a unique scientific base that must be preserved.
The danger of handing over control to Mauritius- 1200 miles away and no historical ties, but strong Chinese economic ties- is to endanger the globes largest, finest and most unique marine reserve.
The 250 Sq.M marine park (7 atolls, 70 small islands, with the worlds largest coral atoll, 1600' trench, & 300+ seamounts) are very special.

The 3 October UK and Mauritius joint statement stated:

"More broadly, the UK and Mauritius will cooperate on environmental protection, maritime security, combating illegal fishing, irregular migration and drug and people trafficking within the Chagos Archipelago, with the shared objective of securing and protecting one of the world’s most important marine environments. This will include the establishment of a Mauritian Marine Protected Area."

You could start a new petition setting out clearly what action you would like Government or Parliament to take.
