Rejected petition Recognise the Republic of Somaliland
To hold a debate in parliament to change the United Kingdom's international policy, on the recognition of the Republic of Somaliland
More details
The recognition of Somaliland by the United Kingdom is crucial for geopolitical and humanitarian reasons. Since declaring independence in 1991, Somaliland has maintained stability and democratic governance. Acknowledging its status would support its aspirations for self-determination and enhance regional stability in the Horn of Africa. Additionally, recognition could improve trade relations and aid initiatives, promoting development and reducing emigration pressures.
