Rejected petition: Ensure the 2025 UK local elections go ahead without restrictions
Rejected on
Multiple council and unitary authority elections are due to take place on 1st May 2025. There is a possibility the current government will make a unilateral decision to cancel or postpone those elections. This petition aims to trigger a debate in Parliament on whether the elections should proceed.
To uphold parliamentary democracy in the UK and prevent any acting government from independently changing scheduled elections without the consensus of all serving MPs.
