Petition Respect for the dignity of the Human Embryo
More details
We would like to see an end to any research or procedure that involves the creation & then intentional destruction of human embryos (including the recent plans for mitochondrial replacement therapy in which, in the case of pro-nuclear transfer, a human embryo with unhealthy mitochondria is destroyed in order to create a healthy one).
We believe that the human embryo reserves the right to be treated with the same dignity and respect as a born human person. We do not see rationally why a human embryo is considered of less value than a born human being & treated as such, given that human life is on a continuum of development from the moment of conception.
Paragraph 2 of Article 18 of the Council of Europe Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine states that "The creation of human embryos for research purposes is prohibited". We would like for the UK to sign this as other countries have, if it will protect all human life from conception.
