Rejected petition Change the law on Catapults
Change the law so that possession of a catapult in public becomes an offence
Currently it is not an offence to possess a catapult in public, and the police must prove either intent to use one to cause damage or harm, or evidence it has been used to cause damage or harm.
More details
The aim is to make it an absolute offence, like knives, to possess one in public without a lawful defence
There are more and more cases of criminal damage in communities plus attacks on defenceless animals and wildlife by the use of catapults .
A change in the law is required to help remove this problem from our communities and give the police the same powers as for knives, that it is an offence to possess one in public without lawful defence.
