Rejected petition: Use appropriate language to describe crimes without fear of offence
Rejected on
The freedom and of use of language is important when discussing all issues, but especially when discussing issues of national security. The reaction of parliamentarians to language they deem offensive is putting our country at further risk of terrorism rather than preventing it.
Language is important. Language sways views. Language has the ability to minimise or maximise views. Language can be simple if backed up by statistics. Language can be clear and informative without being inflammatory. If statistics are inflammatory and not presented, this equates to a cover up.
