Rejected petition Ban smoking in homes resident to children under the age of 18.

We urge the government or parliament to enact legislation prohibiting smoking inside homes resident to children under the age of 18 to protect them from the consequences of secondhand smoke.

More details

Exposure to secondhand smoke poses serious health risks, especially to children, and is linked to conditions like SIDS, asthma, pneumonia, and respiratory infections (Goldstein, 2015). The CDC highlights its immediate effects on the cardiovascular system and increased risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as greater susceptibility in children to ear infections, severe asthma attacks, and respiratory symptoms (CDC, 2024). Reducing children's exposure to secondhand smoke is essential for protecting their health.
