Petition Local Authorities to be required to fund and maintain affordable sports facilities
More details
When local authorities make cuts, sports facilities are the first for the chop because councils don't have a statutory duty to provide them.
If Parliament enacted legislation which forced local authorities to provide AFFORDABLE sporting facilities, the health and well being of the population would be dramatically improved.
Central funding, and lottery money given to UK Sport and Sport England could be diverted to local authorities.
AFFORDABLE sports facilities for use by local clubs and the general public would benefit the whole community. This is an example of legislation which would become a true 2012 legacy of Olympic proportions.
