Petition Provide funding to make more NHS dentists available

I want the government to provide funding and encourage dentists to reopen their lists for NHS patients.

More details

Many dentists are not taking on new NHS patients. Private practices are in abundance but I think the average working person cannot afford their fees. I think we are going backwards in providing basic dental care.

  1. Access to NHS dentistry: debate in Parliament

On 22 May, MPs debated access to NHS dentistry.

This was a Backbench Business debate led by Melanie Onn MP. Health Minister Karin Smyth MP responded on behalf of the Government.

    Explainer

Backbench Business debates give MPs an opportunity to debate a topic of their choice, and receive a response from the Government.

    They are a way to:

    • raise awareness of an issue
    • seek to influence government policy
    • put the views of backbench MPs, political parties, and the Government on record.

They do not generally involve a vote on a particular action or decision.

See our visual explainer on how these debates work.
