Rejected petition Make it illegal for utility companies to levy a standing charge.
Standing charges have increased significantly to such an extent that for some users it is higher that their consumption costs.
Can you imagine food retailers introducing a monthly charge whether you use them or not, just because they have provided the store?
The government should stop this action.
More details
Utility companies standing charge should be built into the unit price of the product provided, I.e kw of electricity etc.
The current system unfairly penalises low users who are often the poorer members of society.
Government can ease the burden on the poor, without reducing the income of the utility companies.
