Petition Fund access to abiraterone in England for high-risk prostate cancer patients
Abiraterone has been available in Scotland and Wales for two years for high-risk patients whose cancer has not yet spread but not in England and Northern Ireland. I want the government fund abiraterone for men in England, giving them the treatment they deserve and has been proven to work.
More details
I think it is unfair that men are not receiving the treatment.
Research has shown that for these earlier stage patients, the survival rate after six years is improved and that the drug halved the rate of progression of the cancer.

Access to abiraterone for the treatment of prostate cancer: debate in Parliament
On 17 June, MPs debated access to abiraterone for the treatment of prostate cancer.
This was an adjournment debate led by Dr Rupa Huq MP. Health Minister, Karin Smyth MP, responded on behalf of the Government.
Explainer
Adjournment debates give an MP the opportunity to debate a topic they choose, and receive a response from the Government.
They are a way to:
- raise awareness of an issue
- seek to influence government policy
- put the views of the MP and the Government on record.
They do not involve a vote on a particular action or decision.
The debates take place at the end of each day in the House of Commons. They last for 30 minutes.
Our visual explainer explains how they work.
