Rejected petition Recognise and protect the rights of the indigenous people of the British Isles
Parliament must recognise the people of the British Isles as indigenous under the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People, article 8, be they English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Manx or Cornish. Our heritage and culture grew from the people of these Isles over millennia. Protect our heritage!
More details
From the coasts of Cornwall to the moors of Scotland our culture is woven through ancient songs, traditions, folklore, food, history and the sound of our diverse dialects and languages. Officials spending public money to cancel Easter events in schools, or “decolonise Welsh Cake” is petty cultural vandalism. Inclusion does not mean erasure! We want to thrive as distinct people. Our history shaped these isles, our stories built its soul. Act decisively and halt our cultural obliteration.
